The escape character when using the "Andrew" card to connect an AS/400 to a PCL printer with an IBM PC.

Variations of this method may be used for other emulation cards to edit the translation table for the printer device.

• On the PC with the card, type at the DOS prompt:

C:>CD \EMULATE
(or whatever the directory is)
C:\EMULATE>COPY PCTWIN.COM PCTWIN.SAV
C:\EMULATE>CFGTWIN

• At Andrew 3XTwin Configuration Program select 2. Modify ADAPTER/DEVICE Interface.
• At Enter the ADAPTER/DEVICE option to configure select 2. PRINTER Configuration.
• At Enter the printer option to configure select 2. Printer Character Translation Tables.
• Write down the name of the configuration file for the printer you wish to modify. This file name should be on the right edge of the screen and have a .CFG extension.
• Press <F10> repeatedly to exit the program.
• Type:

C:\EMULATE>CFGXLAT

• At Enter the name of the Translate Table to modify enter the configuration file name. The character translation table will be displayed.
• At Enter EBCDIC Hex Value enter the HEX value of an uncommonly-used character. Good choices are 9F (the EBCDIC escape) or A1 (the tilde or logical not).
• At Enter ASCII Hex Value enter 1B.
• Press <F10> to exit the program.

Now, when the EBCDIC character is printed from the AS/400, the escape character will be sent to the printer in its place.
